Open House was founded to support the growing English-speaking population in Grenoble and the surrounding area. We currently have more than 150 members from 35 countries. Our members are all linked by the English language and the fact that they are now living or have lived as expats. We know what it means to pack up and come to live in a foreign country where the language and customs may be very different from home. For 31 years our community has been offering support through kindred spirits to help ease the transition during this exciting but challenging time.
Open House runs a wide range of activities for people of all ages and from all walks of life. For members with young kids, we have regular groups plus children’s parties and occasional days out. Other regular meet-ups include wine tastings, lunches, outdoor activities, book groups, and simple coffee meetings where you can get to know other English speakers in the area. If you want to learn French or improve your language skills, we have a French-English exchange. Plus, our members are a source of information on just about anything you could need to know during your time in Grenoble.
As a non-profit, non-denominational, and apolitical association of English speakers, our goal is to assist and support all English speakers who have moved to the Grenoble area. Our website will give you more information about our events, places to visit in the region, and things to do around town. If you are a member of Open House, you will also have access to our private Facebook group, to gain more detailed information and tips on life in Grenoble, place classified ads, and other member announcements.

Our main goal as an association in the French Alps region is to welcome English-speaking newcomers to the area, and as a community support you as you transition to a French way of life. We also aim to provide opportunities for interaction between members of all ages, nationalities, and backgrounds with a pathway to exchange ideas and information.
The membership of Open House includes families and single people, men and women; young and old. Our members are all English speakers and represent 35 different countries, so not all speak English as a first language. All of our members live in the city of Grenoble or the surrounding areas. Many members are here for a short stay in the area but most have been around for 3 years or more.
Open House is run by a team of volunteer board members and group leaders. With a wide array of skills, talents and passions, our board along with its members thrives to make life enjoyable in our community while living in France.
