Open House helps its members organize activities and Interest Groups that address members’ needs and interests. All members are encouraged to get involved! Why not join an Interest Group, help organize an event or party or even propose and lead a new Interest Group? As a volunteer organization, Open House depends on its members to help it flourish, so please get involved today!
Below you will find a description of our current Interest Groups and the contact information for each group. Our Interest Groups cover a wide area of interests, hobbies, and activities. Some meet regularly each week or month and some hold events seasonally. No matter which group suits your interests, you are sure to find a fun and diverse group of people who all speak English and enjoy (or are trying to enjoy) life in the beautiful French Alps!

December: No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency Series by Alexander McCall Smith
January: Commonwealth by Ann Patchett
February: The Round House by Louise Erdrich
March: The Blazing World by Siri Hustvedt
April: The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer
May: Under the Pipal Tree by Anjana Chowdhury
Come discuss in French in a friendly, non-intimidating environment. All levels are welcome.
Come meet us at a Grenoble pub on Thursday evenings to have a drink and unwind. Check this site’s event calendar for details on location and time.
This informal group meets Tuesday mornings at a cafe in Grenoble. Newcomers are welcome! It’s a good place to meet Open House members and the President or other Open House board members who are often there. As Coffee Chat changes locations depending on the season, be sure to check the Event Calendar for more details about where we are meeting.
This group meets about every 6 weeks in a local restaurant for dinner. The group tries to sample a different cuisine every meeting; therefore, the outings are pretty diverse. Our hope is there will be something for everyone!
Improv(e) your French:
Practice conversational French in a fun and relax way. Participants will have the opportunity to improve pronunciation and oral skills during short improv related to real life situations (doctor, pharmacy, market…). All levels are welcome.
Knitting and Crafting Club:
This group meets up bi-weekly for coffee and crafts. Bring along any crafts or knitting project you’re working on. No need to be a pro!
Come join the Lunch Group to discover local restaurants in good company! We welcome all restaurant suggestions.
The Tots Playgroup is for all children under 3 and their mums or dads. The group meets every Thursday morning at CLEF from 9:30-11:00. We sing songs, play games, do handicrafts, read stories, exchange experiences and thoughts and sometimes we go out for excursions (museum, theater, MyGym, municipal parents-children-places, music events…). The playgroup is a great place to meet other English-speaking families. During the school holidays we often meet for playtime in the park.
Wine Tasting Group:
Every six weeks, this group assembles to explore the wine of a different region or country. Members bring a bottle of wine and an accompanying appetizer to share.
We have a new yoga leader this year and are excited to offer two small classes a week, starting in October.
This is a group of people that love to hike with others. We feature hikes for all skill levels.
